Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy Initiated the Establishment of ASEAN MICE Federation
The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Kemenparekraf) held the Southeast Asia Business Event Forum (SEABEF) on February 3, 2023 in Yogyakarta. In addition to discussing various interesting topics about the MICE industry, this activity is also expected to become an embryo so that the MICE (business event) sector is included in one of the sectors discussed in the ASEAN Tourism Forum series every year.
This commitment was supported by representatives of NTOs and MICE associations in the Southeast Asia region who attended the SEABEF event. The first step in realizing this is by forming the ASEAN MICE/Business Event Federation.
Related to this, Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno, who was present at the event, said that the government will support and facilitate stakeholders to realize the existence of the ASEAN MICE Federation.
"We will continue to be committed to developing MICE events in Indonesia by conducting various collaborations, with all stakeholders. We believe MICE is able to create economic activity, create investment and employment," Sandiaga said.
The inclusion of the MICE sector as one of the topics in the ministerial meeting is expected to make the ASEAN region the epicenter of the world MICE industry.
"We will propose this to the ASEAN Secretariat so that SEABEF becomes a permanent agenda, including a MICE section at Travex ATF," said Masruroh, Director of MICE at the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy.
Sandiaga also invited MICE industry players to strengthen their commitment to presenting MICE events that paid attention to sustainability issues. Among other things, by inviting participants in MICE activities to calculate their carbon footprint and offset it with activities such as planting mangrove trees or contributing to environmentally friendly tourism activities.
